Christmas Eve

Shortly before 7 a.m., Sherry Smith, 39, lost control of her 2007 Honda Odyssey when she crossed the center line and struck another vehicle at 4411 Glenway Avenue, West Price Hill, Cincinnati. Gladys Hutcheon, 58, was the driver of the vehicle struck and sustained “serious injuries” from the crash. She was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she is undergoing treatment.  Hutcheon’s passenger, Gail Duncan, 65, sustained life-threatening injuries from the crash and later died. About 9 p.m., a three-car crash occurred on U.S. Route 30 in Paris Township. Joshua Hiles, 29, of Minerva, died in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Hiles was traveling west on Route 30 in a 2000 Lincoln Continental when he lost control on a curve and went left of center. The patrol said his car was struck by a 2017 Ford Explorer which was being driving east by Kenneth Diehl, 57, of Minerva, with a passenger. The Lincoln was torn in half and Hiles was ejected onto the road. Diehl’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and into an embankment. Franklyn Brooks of Lisbon was driving east with three passengers in a 2018 Hyundai Sonata when he struck the front half of Hiles’ car, traveled left of center and struck Hiles, troopers said.
