Around 6:18 p.m., a 29-year-old California woman suffered life threatening injuries when she was riding a moped in Māʻalaea on Maui. Police say the woman was operating a 2020 Genuine moped, and was traveling northeast on the Honoapiʻilani Highway within a marked bicycle lane when the accident occurred. According to police reports, she failed to notice debris in the bike lane, struck the debris, and was ejected onto the roadway. She was not wearing a crash helmet. Police say that around 11:15 pm., on Haleakala Highway northwest of Haliimaile Road, on Maui, a motorcycle was going down the highway on the wrong side of the road when it hit a car head-on. The motorcyclist died at the scene and has been identified as 63-year-old Greg Hanks of Pukalani. The driver of the car was not hurt. Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
