Ethan Kaskin, SC; September 25, 2020

Ethan Kaskin, an off-duty sergeant with the Anderson Police Department, South Carolina, was killed on Friday morning in a head-on crash, while he was going home from a workout.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Sergeant Kaskin was killed in an incident that happened around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 24 at the Double Bridges over Lake Hartwell.

Troopers say the driver of an SUV crossed the centerline of the road and crashed into Kaskin’s city patrol vehicle. Kaskin died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV suffered severe injuries and was taken to hospital.

Dozens of officers, family members and loved ones remembered Detective Ethan Kaskin’s easy smile, calm demeanor and quiet leadership in the Anderson City Police Department at his funeral on Wednesday.

As the funeral procession made its way through the winding streets surrounding the civic center, the Anderson County Honor Guard stood watch under flags at half-mast. Bagpipes, played by a kilted musician, filtered through the chilly morning air as dozens of police and fire vehicles made their way through the lot.
