Trooper Gaylo (42) lost control of his vehicle on a rain slick highway while on routine patrol on Melrose Road in the Town of Owasco, Cayuga County, and struck an oncoming vehicle.

Trooper Gaylo died of head and internal injuries, at the crash scene.

He joined the Division in 1965, and served in Troops C, D and T, before being assigned to the Auburn Station in 1974.
